ARTIST
David Bruce
France
The French artist David Bruce was born in 1977. He discovered graffiti at the age of about 14 years old in the suburbs of Paris.
In order to play basketball with other kids, the adolescent would take the train to different basketball courts and playgrounds. That was when he first encountered graffiti, mostly silver pieces, and soon after started to spray himself. First, he drew sketches on paper, then began to spray along the train tracks and eventually on trains. He was astonished by the magic of passing by his own piece. The relationship with graffiti only grew further. David Bruce started traveling to other European cities in order to leave his marks and tie bonds with other artists. Before fully dedicating himself to art, he worked as a cameraman for French television.
The artist has his studio in Liege, Belgium now, where he also lives. His passion for graffiti continues. At the same time the studio became a new playground for expressing himself through paintings and sculptures – still keeping the same vibe of his youth.
The basketball memories are still relevant and are e frequent chosen motif of David Bruce. Further characteristics of his art are pop-brut aesthetics, smileys and bananas. His artworks are based on a positive, happy and bright color palette.
