INTERVIEW

The Kolly Gallery presents a solo exhibition by French graffiti artist Gris1. The solo exhibition takes place from April 28 to May 28, 2016 at the Kolly Gallery in Zurich. Joy, freedom and lightness are motifs that adorn the canvases of Gris1. Shining colorful compositions stand for the expression of his personal reflections of today’s world. The exhibition of Gris1 has a particular concept, which is why the exhibition is called Interview. Every artwork carries a question instead of a title. The answer will then be represented by the artwork itself.

For Gris1 the graffiti world means freedom and no restrictions, two things that are getting very rare nowadays. So he is focusing on a childlike and playful form of graffiti that nevertheless sometimes has a political statement. With his carefree and bright colored canvases, that sometimes have even a surreal effect, Gris1 breaks through the monotony of everyday life in Northern Europe.

As his art always relates to daily life, figurative subjects build the basis for his creative world. Gris1 tries the catch peoples attention in his very own way by returning them something from their everyday life, that puts them in good mood.

Gris1 was born in 1988 in Epinal (FR) and is now active in Paris. He is a member of Da Mental Vaporz (DMV) Department, which was established in the south of France in the 80s. The DMV Department operates as a graffiti collective for over 15 years. Observing the walls created by DMV in an urban setting, everything is offered to the viewer, from old school Graffiti to Pop Art and all the way to Surrealism, abstract Expressionism and Cubism.
