The two-folded title of the exhibition reveals the multi-interested and creative character of the artist. Not only cats as well as fashion but also… watermelons, plants and chains are part of Ilk’s visual repertoire and creative practice. Ludovilk Myers’s symbolic language merges elements of his daily life and his personal interests, which gives his artworks an organic yet graphic, surrealistic and psychedelic aesthetic.
The extensive palette of influences does not stop there: as an enthusiast of Heavy Metal music, Warhammer video games, horror movies, Ilk simultaneously loves old Walt Disney cartoons of the 1930s, like Mickey Mouse’s Steamboat Willie or The Skeleton Dance.
While observing Ilk’s paintings and ceramics analogies to Art Brut, Raw Art and Folk Art come to the surface. Not only in its formalism but also in its concept. The utilization of daily elements and the act of painting as a reflection and purification of the own mind is a mutual part of Art Brut and Ilk’s creative practice.
