Ludovilk Myers’s visual repertoire merged from concrete organic shapes, to writing and currently abstraction. In his recent art works he focuses on colours, textures, geometric shapes, and mostly abstract painting. The series consists of a big 2x2m “mother“ canvas, which is divided in four smaller canvases. Through their visual similarities all the canvases can be identified as part of the complete oeuvre.
There seems to be a connection to the tradition of colour field painting which was usually classified as abstract art or abstract expressionism. Similar aspects can be observed in Ilk’s current art works. The figurative content is currently taking the back seat, while the visual effect of the paintings takes the centre of the attention. The works themselves are characterized by large colour fields without sharp contours. Some of them superimpose other colour fields and therefore create a contrast between the colours. The form and size of the fields themselves vary and the fields themselves have only a slight gradation in their nuances. Ilk’s colour palette for the series Morceaux Choisis lies between dark blue colours, hades of grey, various pastel colours and a pungent yellow.
