KALEIDOSCOPE

The magic symphony of MadC’s strong yet delicate artworks consists of three components: calligraphy – spectral colors – transparency. Together with MadC the Kolly Gallery reveals a new series of artworks that show the possibilities of art from a complete different perspective and conception. The exhibition called Kaleidoscope is held from December 8, 2016 until January 7, 2017.

The title of the show is a reference to her exhibition in 2014, where MadC customized empty 600ml spray paint cans to kaleidoscopes, cutting out small glass pieces of her calligraphic paintings. The fascination thereby lies in the endless variations of images created through the movement of a kaleidoscope.

In this exhibition MadC transfers the small image of the kaleidoscope to canvas, so that the original canvases and their associated sparkling kaleidoscopes are exposed at the same time. The precise tuning of spectral color nuances and variations, brightness, saturation and transparency sticking with calligraphic structures is visible in every unique piece by MadC. Each canvas has its own mood and character – and thus it allows a completely individual emotional experience to the spectator. While immersing the viewer steps into a synesthetic perception of colors and emotions. Within Kaleidoscope MadC creates a place without time and space, where rules are made by colors. She is a virtuoso of color compositions that conceives a synesthetic and physical experience.

Claudia Walde alias MadC is one of the most successful among female street artists indoors as well as outdoors. She was born in Germany but raised in Ethiopia. She studied at both Burg Giebichenstein, University of Art and Design in Halle and Central Saint Martins College in London. She is not only a talented and emerging artist but also a professional author for Graffiti and Street Art, which show her cultural and anthropological insight. She published Sticker City – Paper Graffiti Art (2007) and Street Fonts – Graffiti Alphabets From Around The World (2011). One of her most remarkable pieces was the 700-Wall (2010) with a size of 700 m². This mural is most likely the largest graffiti created by a single person and was finished in four months time. Today MadC can no longer save herself from inquiries for murals. Her huge facades are spread all over the world: Mexico, America, England, France, Sweden, Germany and Tahiti.
