Kolly Gallery is exhibiting Steph Cop’s related drawings of the recently presented sculptures entitled AROèdres from 30 November to 4 December 2020 in Zurich. Steph Cop’s knowledge about the element of wood is just thrilling, since his inhabitation of the Morvan forest he has extensively researched and shaped the forest’s trees as well as regrown his own.
It is in the winter of 2020 that Steph Cop decides to end the artistic cycle of his iconic ARO sculptures and herald a new, reshaped and deeply researched visual vocabulary entitled AROèdres. His new artistic awakening will be accompanied by a new publication entitled «IX. arbre» to be released in December 2020.
With the preparatory drawings of AROèdres exhibited at Kolly Gallery, Steph Cop gives insight into his working process. These two drawings are complementary, they allow the Steph Cop to have an overall view of the work he is doing. Each sculpture has its explanatory sketch, it is a rather a technical groundwork and a working base, with which he starts to draw and sculpt his wood piece. The produced drawings allow the artist to imagine the ordered continuation of a certain series.
