Traditional graffiti codes, style writing and letters rooting in the mid-1990s dissolve in abstract compositions of urban elegance. Sweetuno’s research into different ways to express typography as well as redeploying his old-school graffiti roots, mainly through movement and body language, is the driving force of his creative practice.
This series entitled 5 Sweet Things offers a versatile insight into Sweetuno’s creative practice, while at the same time each artwork has a very unique and distinct character. Regarding the title of the art works, in most cases “flop” or “throw up”, refers to a large, simple, loose and fast usually one- or two-color lettering.
Beside the tag “flops” are one of the most present forms of graffiti in the street. Also in Sweetuno’s case the “flop” is a kind of minimalist lettering but, focusing on the essence of its dynamic and speed. Sweetuno is outstanding in his usage of urban semiotics.
