L’Atlas is a French artist known for his unique style of calligraphy-inspired graffiti art. Born as Jules Dedet Granel in 1978 in Toulouse and moved to the suburbs of Paris right away, he began his artistic path as a graffiti writer in the early 1990s. We was inspired by the hip-hop culture and street art scene of his hometown. Over the years, he has become one of the most recognizable and respected artists in the field of contemporary urban art, known for his intricate, geometric compositions and predominant use of black and white.
The study of various calligraphies within the artistic practice of L’Atlas is clearly evident. He is unique style blends ancient typographies, especially Kufic scripture, geometric and complex patterns and optical art. His style includes a graphic approach to scripture in form of cryptoagrams, logograms, which therefore have a minimal, elegant and timeless appearance.
Throughout his career, L’Atlas has collaborated with a number of brands like Agnes b., Perrier, Jimmy Choo, Fenty, Guerlin, Château de la Gaude. other artists, designers, and musicians. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums around the world, including the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and the Seoul Calligraphy Art Museum.
