Who Am I

The question around the “I” is always a question of identification with the “I” the “ego”. How should we present ourselves, how do we want to present ourselves, how are we seen by others? Which roles are we assigned to by the society? And why we would want to represent anything important at all in a world we share with almost 8 billion people?

In this series of five paintings, Nana transforms into female stars from music history and reaches new levels of her personality. She represents iconic divas through striking looks, which are emphasized by the choice of colors and the composition of the image. The icons featured in the series are Grace Jones, Erykah Badu, Nina Hagen, Marlene Dietrich and Amy Winehouse. Mina Mania consciously chose strong female characters with a inspiring story. A diva usually describes an outstanding women who is aware of her uniqueness and celebrate this role assigned to her extensively. Mostly, the iconic look or expression of a diva is a clear statement against common role models of women, a rebellion, a demarcation and underpinning of the personality.
