The art and thus his most important legacy is, even after his death in 2010, should be made accessible to the viewer. Accordingly, this is not a conventionally – business oriented art exhibition. Therefore many of the exhibited works originate (of) art collections. As an autodidact Sigi “Dare” von Koeding developed a complex style with almost perfectly arranged letters and pseudonyms, which gave him the opportunity to create a large international network. This allowed him to exhibit his art pieces far beyond the European borders. His unique works are all underlined by his distinctive 3D – style , which comes into play particularly in large-scale graffitis. Nevertheless, each of his works is unique and unlike any other. Even today, the Swiss pioneer marks an extremely important role in the graffiti scene in Switzerland, because even today his writings are studied meticulously by the latest sprayer generation in Switzerland.
Curator of the unique exhibition DARE – IN MEMORIAM is Julien Kolly, the founder and owner of Kolly Gallery, located in Zurich. Julien Kolly followed the work of Dare since 1991. Not only the graffiti art connected them but also a long-standing friendship. As a result of their collaboration various exhibitions have been realized in Fribourg, Yverdon-les-Bains and Zurich. This year’s opening exhibition in Kolly Gallery, named “DARE – Auswärtsspiel”, is the first retrospective of Dare’s artistic career. The profound friendship between the gallery owner and the artist lead to a vision, which was realized with the exhibition in 2016.
The book „DARE to be different“, which will be published at the exhibition DARE – In Memoriam from April 1st -3rd. The book documents about 250 pages for the first time graffitis all around Europe, numerous sketches and a diverse milestones of its innovative life work , which he left us behind on canvases.
